In conversations about these phenomena, social media has consistently been at the center, though mental health issues can have multiple contributing factors. Those with depression were more susceptible to social comparison and pressure to show their best selves on social media. Many young people reported an inability to control their use, social media distracting from other activities and unconsciously reaching for social media when bored. Ask the teens in your life what they like about these platforms and what types of connections or activities support their mental health, Lenhart said. Let them know you’re there to help figure out a solution if social media is upsetting them or interfering with other responsibilities.

On top of that, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) subsidies to reshore the battery supply chain to the U.S. are also "having the desired impact," it added. It named companies such as LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI which have more than 65% of U.S. battery manufacturing capacity. LG Energy Solution has the additional benefit of being the most exposed to growth and IRA benefits, they added. But Bernstein said it prefers Samsung SDI to LG Energy Solution for now, as the former offers "growth at a reasonable price." Bernstein gave Samsung SDI and LG Chem an outperform rating and LG Energy Solution a market perform rating.

On Monday, prosecutors rested their case after their 20th and final witness, Michael D. Cohen, stepped down from the stand after a week of testimony in a Manhattan courtroom. That’s an indication that it is unlikely Mr. Trump will testify. The judge, Juan M. Merchan, said that closing arguments would come next, after the long Memorial Day weekend. Mr. Trump’s trial entered its sixth week on Monday, with signs throughout the day that the patience of some in the courtroom, including the judge, had worn thin. Near the end of the day, Justice Merchan sharply scolded Mr. Costello over his behavior on the stand.

Those strike prices were substantially higher than the stock's price, which was trading between $10 to $16.50 that week. But what Sosnick found interesting was that the open interest went up faster for the $30 strike calls, signaling an expectation that the price would really rally this time. The table below shows the rise in open interest on strike calls of 20, 25, and 30 set to expire by May 17 and the price of the contracts. AdvertisementTom Sosnoff, the cofounder of Thinkorswim and Tastytrade, says there's probably a reasonable explanation behind the rise of open interest in GME. As for the rise of open interest on the 30-strike price, he attributes it to the cheapness of those contracts relative to the other strikes rather than a function of price prediction.

Things are so bad that even tech workers, who make some of the highest salaries of any profession, are feeling the crunch. Two successive presidents have come down firmly on the side of tariffs rather than trade agreements as the preferred mechanism for managing international commerce. While there are political and security reasons for tariffs, America’s new protectionist stance will raise prices, limit consumer choices and risk our future growth. Last week, after laying low on this front for most of his term, President Biden announced a raft of new tariffs on selected Chinese imports including electric cars and solar panels as well as steel and aluminum. While the tariffs cover only $18 billion of imports, they are by design meant to keep Chinese products, like electric vehicles, from entering the U.S. market. In doing so, he has in large measure aligned his trade policy with that of his predecessor, Donald Trump.

Russian forces on Tuesday inched closer to the central part of Vovchansk, a town in Ukraine’s northeast that they have been attacking for the past 10 days as part of a new offensive in the region. Roman Semenukha, the deputy head of the military administration in the northeastern Kharkiv region, said on television on Monday that Ukrainian forces had lost about 40 percent of the town, with Russian troops pushing from the north. Open-source maps of the battlefield compiled by independent groups also show that Russia now controls the northern part of the town, which had a prewar population of 17,000. Vovchansk, which lies just five miles from the Russian border, has been a prime target of Moscow’s new offensive. Both U.S. officials and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia have said the offensive is part of an effort to establish a buffer zone.
